  4. In the Valley of Gods might be experiencing some technical difficulties, as Campo Santo developers have removed the game from their Twitter bios with no explanation (via Game Rant). Valve News Network spotted the changes on art director Claire Hummel, environment artist Jane Ng, and designer Jake Rodkins’ Twitter information. The game had been scrubbed from their bios earlier this year but no formal announcement has been made by Campo Santo. In the Valley of Gods has been dropped from the developer’s website too, but publisher Valve is still displaying the title and saying it is “in the works” on its own website. The developer’s debut, Firewatch, is an emotive, isolated, and exceptionally stylised game set in Shoshone National Forest, one year after the disastrous Yellowstone fires of 1988. Short but sweet, the game collected up countless nominations and awards. When Campo Santo unveiled In the Valley of Gods, the excitement was tangible for an Egyptian archaeological adventure. However, if the possible abandonment is true, this latest project may never see the light of day. Campo Santo co-founder Sean Vanaman assured that the Valve acquisition would not scupper the studio’s unique take on storytelling. “The thing that was going to kill our game wasn't an overlord. It's never going to be that. That's just not what exists here,” he explained, and said that the two companies working together is like a “mindshare” borne of careful consideration. “I just know that I probably can't imagine the next thing I'm working on, and that's f*cking awesome,” Vanaman added. Of course, we don’t know for sure that In the Valley of Gods has been scrapped because we don’t have an official acknowledgement from either Campo Santo or Valve. It is hoped that the team is enjoying its work on their current project, whatever it may be, and we might hear about it soon. Sursa: Videogamer
  5. A Diablo 2 remaster is a castle in the sky because a lot of the game’s source code and assets were corrupted and lost forever (via GameSpot). At ExileCon 2019, Diablo creators Max Schaefer, Erich Schaefer, and David Brevik shared that there was a moment when it all could have been over for Diablo 2. In the 11th hour of Diablo 2’s development, the entire backup of the game’s source code and assets was deleted. “Not just our code, but all of our assets. Irrevocably, fatally corrupted,” Max Schaefer said. “We were supposed to have a backup but neglected it. We spent a day or two in sheer panic,” Erich Schaefer recalled, and honestly, that story does sound horrifying. Fortunately, Blizzard North was able to recreate the game from the developer version that the employees had as personal test copies. “[We] finally rebuilt a lot of it through what people had at their homes," Erich Schaefer explained. “I had a big chunk of it. Went home, pulled out the hard drive or whatever we did back then. Spent a few days reconstructing it, which ended up working fine.” It wasn’t a real happy ending, however. Erich lamented that the team “lost all the history” of Diablo 2. “It would make it very difficult for Blizzard to do a Diablo 2 remaster because all the assets we used are pretty much gone. They'd have to make them from scratch,” he stated. That would involve a lot of time, money, and manpower that Blizzard is currently dedicating to Diablo 4. The possibility of a Diablo 2 remaster was floated before BlizzCon 2019 kicked off, and of course, the highly-anticipated Diablo 4 was announced. This revelation implies that a remaster is exceedingly unlikely, however, Diablo 4 promises to return to the ‘darker roots’ of the franchise, which would satisfy those with a hankering for classic dungeon-crawling. 6. A new Mass Effect game is in the works at BioWare’s Edmonton studio and it’s being led by Mike Gamble, according to Kotaku’s sources. Mass Effect: Andromeda had wonderful combat but the story missed the mark of the series’ staples: hard-hitting moral quandaries and an episodic space opera structure. I loved bringing a world of hurt to the Kett marauders with my stupidly powerful Engineer build, but I literally forgot I was in a relationship with Peebee until she mentioned it before the big bad battle. Lots of people agreed that Andromeda was lacklustre, and BioWare announced that the game would receive no further updates in the future. That was less than six months after Andromeda released. However, Mass Effect has not met its Waterloo. Casey Hudson, BioWare general manager, said he loves the series “too much to not want to work on it again in the future”. On N7 Day 2018, he coyly stated he is always “dreaming about what the next Mass Effect game will be”, and EA recently expressed interest in rebooting its “fan favourites”. An original trilogy remaster would be lovely, especially on that whizzy PlayStation 5 or Project Scarlett. Or both, I’m not choosy. But, contrary to popular opinion, EA and BioWare are apparently beavering away on a new Mass Effect game with producer Mike Gamble in charge. On N7 Day 2019, Gamble asked what fans would like to see from a possible Mass Effect property. The query is innocuous and plenty of people responded with their own ideas. Perhaps Gamble was looking for inspiration from the fans and might include the suggestions that the team likes the most. Or, perhaps he posed the question because he was curious. Of course, this is speculative because neither EA or BioWare have confirmed the existence of the project. If Kotaku’s sources are correct, it could be a very interesting development for the series that has weathered some serious storms. Once we know more, we’ll keep you in the loop. Sursa: Videogamer
